The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, one of the region’s most prestigious amateur events and a direct pathway to the Masters Tournament, is heading to Vietnam for the first time.
The Masters Tournament, The R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation have announced that Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Hoi An will stage the 2027 championship. The decision marks a significant milestone for Vietnamese golf and underscores the growing stature of Asia as a host for elite amateur competition.
The 2027 event will be the 18th edition of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. The winner earns an invitation to the following year’s Masters at Augusta National, making the tournament one of the most coveted titles in amateur golf across the region.
Hoiana Shores, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 2019, offers a striking coastal setting. Laid out along more than 1½ miles of beachfront sand dunes, the course provides panoramic views of the South China Sea and the Cham Islands. Its selection highlights both the quality of Vietnam’s emerging golf infrastructure and the increasing confidence in the country’s ability to host major international events.
Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, welcomed the news: “We are very fortunate to be able to stage the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at some of the world’s finest courses and Hoiana Shores and New South Wales are undoubtedly in that category. We are very much looking forward to taking the championship to Vietnam for the first time and enjoying one of the world’s great emerging golf destinations.”
Looking further ahead, the 2028 championship will be held at New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney, Australia—another first-time host venue.
The announcement reinforces Asia’s rising profile on the global amateur stage and places Hoiana Shores firmly in the spotlight as a destination capable of delivering a championship of the highest standard.
