The International Series Macau, presented by Wynn, has just been announced as a qualifying event for The Open! From March 20-23 at the Macau Golf and Country Club, the top three finishers will earn a coveted spot in this year’s fourth major tournament.
This second edition of the tournament is officially part of The Open Qualifying Series for 2025, which includes 15 events across 11 countries. The leading three non-exempt players will get a shot at the iconic Claret Jug when The Open takes place at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland from July 17-20.
This is a big deal because it’s the first time an event on The International Series has been included in the Open Qualifying Series, showcasing the series as a genuine pathway to the top levels of professional golf. Plus, the International Series already serves as a route to the LIV Golf League for players through its rankings across 10 events on the Asian Tour calendar.
Cho Minn Thant, the Commissioner & CEO of the Asian Tour, expressed gratitude to The R&A for their ongoing partnership, saying, "We thank The R&A for our continued involvement with the Open Qualifying Series, and the ongoing strengthening of our partnership. This will give our members a great chance of playing in The Open, which is the goal of every professional golfer."
Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series, added, “"This is a significant moment for The International Series, and Macau, with our tournament being identified as a viable route to this year’s edition of The Open."
"We have always strived to offer opportunity to players, through our pathway onto the LIV Golf League, and this announcement aligns with our values. The decision gives added incentive to the players, and further demonstrates the growing strength of our brand and the tournament, and golf in the Asian region."
Last year’s International Series Macau was won by LIV Golf reserve player John Catlin, who triumphed over Spanish rising star David Puig in an exciting playoff. Catlin made waves with a historic third-round score of 59, while Puig responded with an impressive final-round score of 60, making for an exhilarating finish!
