The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) has formally launched a major push to establish Nagpur's first international-standard 18-hole championship golf course and an integrated sports country club, viewing the project as essential for attracting global investment and talent.
VED submitted a detailed project proposal and DPR to Saoner MLA Ashish Deshmukh and District Collector Vipin Itankar, IAS, urging them to follow up with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The ambitious plan, slated for development under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare, outlines more than just a golf course. It includes a premium sports and lifestyle township featuring a luxury country club with facilities for:
Further enhancing the proposal are plans for a boutique hotel, luxury cottages, and a full-fledged golf academy designed to create pathways for juniors and underprivileged students.
VED President Rina Sinha stressed that Nagpur's rapid emergence as a major industrial, IT, and logistics hub—driven by MIHAN and global technology firms, necessitates internationally benchmarked lifestyle infrastructure.
The council argues that the availability of professional golf and lifestyle facilities is a key factor assessed by international investors, particularly from Japan, Korea, Germany, and the US, when making long-term investment decisions.
The DPR proposes acquiring 175–200 acres within 25 km of the city centre, targeting fast-developing corridors like MIHAN, Hingna, the Outer Ring Road, Kalmeshwar, and Umred Road.
VED projects the initiative could generate:
The council has requested the state government to allocate suitable land, create a Special Development Zone, provide treated water access, and grant single-window permissions, classifying the initiative as a State Priority Infrastructure Project.
