In a move to modernize the fairway and bridge the gap between the industry and the public, the Korea Golf Course Management Association (KGCMA) has officially introduced its new mascot duo, Pilttu and Sunggongi.
Designed to symbolize the future of Korean golf, these characters represent more than just friendly faces; they embody the association's commitment to safety, etiquette, and the evolving spirit of the game.
The central figure of the duo is Pilttu, a warm and visionary leader described as the "spirit of the course." The name is a clever linguistic blend:
Pilttu’s design is a walking tribute to course architecture. Its body reflects the varying shades of green found in fairways, greens, and roughs. To capture the full golfer experience, the design incorporates motifs from course hazards—such as bunkers and ponds—symbolizing the resilience required to navigate the challenges of the game.
Accompanying Pilttu is Sunggongi, a "spirit of the earth" who may be small in stature but is mighty in purpose. While Pilttu carves the path across the field, Sunggongi stands at the destination, waving a flag attached to its head to signal the way.
Sunggongi’s philosophy is rooted in a powerful message for modern players: "Success is about direction, not speed." The character serves as a reminder that the journey and the strategy behind each shot are just as vital as the final score.
The KGCMA isn't just keeping these mascots on paper. The association has outlined an ambitious roadmap to integrate the "Pilttu and Sunggongi Universe" into the golfer’s daily life:
"By introducing Pilttu and Sunggongi, we aim to foster closer communication with golfers and present a friendlier, more forward-looking image for the golf course management industry," a representative from the association stated.
