Sembawang Country Club Reopens Full Back9 Course After Major Renovations

18 March, 2026

SEMBAWANG, SINGAPORE – Sembawang Country Club (SCC) has officially marked a major milestone with the full reopening of its Back 9, returning the facility to its status as a premier 18-hole championship course.

In the March 2026 "Captain’s Column," Club Captain Kenneth Gn addressed the membership, celebrating the completion of the long-awaited refreshment project while outlining what players can expect during this critical "grow-in" phase.

The Return to Par 72

The restoration of the Back 9 marks a significant shift in gameplay. For months, golfers at Sembawang have been playing a hybrid par-66 configuration. With the full 18 holes now active, the course has returned to its traditional par-72 format.

Captain Gn noted that while the return to a full-length course is an "exciting milestone," members should be prepared for longer rounds. "With additional shots required across the round, the overall playing time will inevitably be longer," Gn stated, adding that this reflects the standard pace of play for a championship-grade course.

Navigating the "New" Layout

The reopened holes feature a refreshed layout designed to challenge and engage golfers. However, the club has acknowledged that the learning curve may temporarily slow down play. To assist golfers in familiarizing themselves with new landing zones and hazard placements, SCC has stationed marshals at key points across the course to guide players and maintain flow.

Protecting the Turf

While the course is open for play, the club is prioritizing the long-term health of the new turf. Currently, "buggy on track" restrictions remain in effect.

"The grass across parts of the course is still in its establishment phase," the Captain explained. "Allowing unrestricted buggy movement too early could cause significant compaction and damage to the young turf." The club plans to lift these restrictions progressively as the grass matures and becomes more resilient.

A Call for Patience and Care

The club leadership is urging members to take a sense of "shared responsibility" during this transition. This includes standard etiquette such as repairing divots and fixing pitch marks, which are vital during the delicate grow-in period.

Captain Gn emphasized that the club will take a measured approach before considering any further changes, allowing the course to settle into its intended character. "Protecting the condition of the course today ensures that members will continue to enjoy excellent playing conditions in the years ahead," he said.

With the 18-hole course now fully operational, Sembawang Country Club moves into its next chapter, focusing on stewardship and the refinement of the golfing experience for its members.
