Golf Official Paramjit Singh Honored with Vocational Excellence Award in Chennai

3 April, 2026

CHENNAI, India — Paramjit Singh, a pivotal figure in the development of Indian golf, was presented with the Vocational Excellence Award by the Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar on March 30. The ceremony was headlined by the presence of Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, who joined in recognizing Singh’s decade-long commitment to the sport.

Since 2012, Singh has served as a Tournament Director with the Indian Golf Union (IGU). Operating largely behind the scenes, he has maintained a grueling schedule, officiating between 40 to 45 tournaments annually to ensure the integrity and smooth execution of events across the nation.

From Professional Stages to Grassroots Growth

While Singh’s expertise is sought after at the highest levels—most recently contributing to the course marking for the prestigious Hero Indian Open—his true passion lies in the foundational levels of the game.

Singh has intentionally carved out a niche in junior and amateur golf, believing that his veteran experience is most impactful when directed at those still learning the complexities of the sport.

“Professionals already know the rules,” Singh remarked regarding his preference for youth events. “I enjoy working at developmental events where we can guide parents and help young players take the next step.”

A Legacy of Quiet Dedication

The award highlights a career defined by "working quietly," focusing on the developmental pipeline that feeds India’s professional ranks. By prioritizing junior events, Singh has become a mentor for the next generation of golfers, ensuring they understand the technical and ethical standards of the game before they reach the global spotlight.

Key Contributions at a Glance:

  • Tenure: Tournament Director with the IGU since 2012.
  • Volume: Officiated approximately 500 tournaments over the last decade.
  • Major Events: Key official for the Hero Indian Open (DP World Tour sanctioned).
  • Focus: Specialized in junior golf development and parental guidance.

The Vocational Excellence Award serves as a fitting tribute to a man whose efforts have shaped the landscape of Indian golf from the ground up, ensuring the sport's rules and traditions are preserved for future champions.
