With the aim to put Johor on the map as a top golf destination, not just in Malaysia but across Southeast Asia. With 28 golf courses—some featuring world-class facilities—Johor is ready to take significant strides in sports tourism and cultivate new golfing talent.
Co-organized by Champions Golf and KPRJ Sports Sdn Bhd, the three-day expo showcased around 60 exhibitors from various sectors, including hospitality, golf tech, and tourism. Bringing together together key players in the industry, including manufacturers, suppliers, golf club owners, and passionate golf fans.
The event was hosted at the Senibong Golf Resort in Gelang Patah, boasting an international 18-hole golf course with newly renovated Tifdwarf Bermuda greens.
Over 1,000 participants showed up for the Pro-Am International Championship, MGA Junior Championship, Ladies' Championship, and even Foot Golf and Fairway Family Day with former Manchester United and England star Lee Sharpe making an appearance.
Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, the chairman of the Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee, emphasized the government’s commitment to making golf accessible for everyone. He mentioned plans to expand talent search programs in schools through the State Sports Council, aiming to spot and nurture young golfing talent.
Johor’s booming golf industry is becoming a key driver of economic growth, especially through sports tourism. “Events like JGE 2024 will boost hotels, restaurants, and services, all while helping us reach our tourism goals for Visit Johor 2026,”
Datuk Lukman Abu Bakar, the CEO of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), highlighted that the expo wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of Senibong Golf Resort, industry leaders, the private sector, and the state government. He pointed out that golf isn’t just a sport; it’s a vital part of an industry that positively impacts everyone—from budding golfers to local businesses.
