Asian Golf Industry Stalwarts Honoured at AGIF Awards Gala

The Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) celebrated the region's top contributors, leaders, and innovators at its Annual International Summit, culminating in a glittering Awards Gala Dinner held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre ballroom.

The event recognised individuals and clubs across Asia who have demonstrated excellence and made significant, measurable impacts on the growth and development of the sport.

Distinguished Figures Recognised

Four veteran figures were presented with the Distinguished Contribution to the Game award for their sustained service over the years:

  • Taimur Hassan Amin (Pakistan): Recently stepped down after six years as Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC).
  • Dilip Thomas (India): Honoured for over 30 years in golf governance with the Indian Golf Union and APGC.
  • Zainal Mohammed Shah (Malaysia): Recognised for decades of prominent leadership and advisory roles in the Malaysian golf industry, including involvement in the AGIF’s Certificate in Greenkeeping programme.
  • His Royal Highness Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar (Malaysia): Celebrated for his distinguished service to international sport, including 20 years as President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, and as the Founder of SportExcel, Malaysia’s first structured junior golf development pathway which has produced stars like Ben Leong and Gavin Green.

Brad Burgess of STS was specifically cited for his leadership in introducing and promoting advanced Zoysia turf varieties, which enhance course sustainability and performance across the region.

Clubs from nine nations received the Outstanding Contribution award, honouring their operational excellence and impact:

  • Brunei: The Empire Golf & Country Club
  • Cambodia: Vattanac Golf Resort
  • India: DLF Golf & Country Club
  • Indonesia: Gading Raya Golf Club
  • Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club
  • Philippines: The Orchard Golf & Country Club
  • Singapore: Tanah Merah Country Club
  • Thailand: Amata Spring Country Club
  • Vietnam: Hoiana Shores Golf Club

AGIF President Chris Gray concluded the evening by stating, “The Federation was delighted to be able to celebrate excellence in golf by recognising them during our annual Summit. So many individuals and organisations have had a positive influence on the game in Asia that deserve to be rewarded and lifted into the spotlight.”
