
The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) in collaboration with the Masters Tournament and The R&A, has announced that the 16th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will take place at Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course in Dubai from October 23-26, 2025.
This will be a special return to Dubai and the Middle East, as it’s the second time the championship is being held in the region, following its debut there in 2021.
The tournament features the top male amateur golfers from across the Asia-Pacific region, representing 43 affiliated organizations. The winner of the 2025 championship will earn an invitation to compete in the prestigious Masters Tournament at Augusta National the following year, as well as an exemption into The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale - With the runner-up earning a spot at Final Qualifying for The Open championship.
Some big names have competed in this championship over the years, including Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time winner and the 2021 Masters champion, and Cameron Smith, who claimed victory at The 150th Open.
Other talented players who have kicked off their professional careers through the Asia-Pacific Amateur include Australia’s Cameron Davis and Min Woo Lee, Taiwan’s C.T. Pan, South Korea’s Si-Woo Kim and Kyoung-Hoon Lee, Japan’s Takumi Kanaya and Keita Nakajima, and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox. Together, these alumni have gone on to win an impressive 27 tournaments on the PGA Tour and over 130 events on major professional tours worldwide.
The Majlis Course, designed by Karl Litten was established in 1988 as the first grass course in the Middle East and is located just south of downtown Dubai, offering stunning views of the city’s skyline.
It’s known as the annual host of the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic, which has seen legends like Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Ernie Els take home the trophy. In fact, Australia’s Lucas Herbert won the Dubai Desert Classic in 2020, becoming the first alum of the Asia-Pacific Amateur to win the event five years after his last appearance.
