2 December, 2024

Emirates Golf Club has been honored with the prestigious European Tour Group Sustainability Award, recognizing its outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative eco-friendly practices during the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The award was presented at the European Tour Group Sustainability Awards ceremony, held at Jumeirah Golf Estates prior to the DP World Tour Championship. These awards celebrate venues and suppliers that exhibit exceptional leadership and innovation in hosting sustainable golf events.

The club has implemented several pioneering initiatives to underscore its dedication to sustainability, including:

Effective Waste Management: Emirates Golf Club has significantly reduced landfill waste through robust recycling and waste reduction programs.

Renewable Energy Solutions: In collaboration with key partners, the club has developed a cutting-edge hybrid solar and hydrogen energy system to sustainably power event facilities.

Water Conservation Efforts: By investing in advanced irrigation systems and utilizing treated sewage effluent, the club has made notable progress in minimizing water consumption, aligning with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

Christopher May, CEO of Dubai Golf, expressed his excitement about the achievement, stating, “We are thrilled to receive this recognition for our sustainability efforts. Our team is committed to practices that enhance the golfing experience while positively impacting the environment. This award inspires us to continue pushing boundaries and encouraging others in the region to prioritize sustainable initiatives.”

The European Tour Group Sustainability Awards are evaluated by a panel of experts from tournament operations and sustainability, along with independent specialists from the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.

This recognition affirms Emirates Golf Club's position as a leader in sustainable golf, setting a high standard for clubs throughout the region and beyond.

Since its establishment in 1988, Emirates Golf Club has played a crucial role in the development of golf in the Middle East. In January, its Majlis Course will host the 36th edition of the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series event, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The club also features the 18-hole floodlit Faldo Course, 12 padel courts, gym and spa facilities, a short golf course, and Topgolf Dubai.
