The massive US$1 billion Phase 2 expansion of the Hoiana integrated resort is set to cement Central Vietnam’s status as a global powerhouse for golf tourism. At the heart of this expansion is a second championship golf course and a world-class professional training academy, designed to capitalize on the region’s surging popularity among international players.
The details of the 209-hectare expansion were unveiled by Nguyen Vinh Tran, CEO of Hoi An South Development, during a business forum in Da Nang. The project marks a strategic pivot for the resort, shifting focus from its casino-centric beginnings to a "destination-first" philosophy.
The addition of a second 18-hole course is the crown jewel of Phase 2. While the resort’s first course, Hoiana Shores (designed by Robert Trent Jones II), is already ranked among the world’s top 100, the new development aims to elevate the experience further:
The expansion follows a change in leadership, with CEO Alan Teo spearheading a strategy to market Hoiana as a lifestyle and sports hub rather than just a gaming destination.
"We leverage on having one of the world’s top 100 golf courses as a reason for people to come," Teo recently explained, noting that the resort’s proximity to Da Nang International Airport (45 minutes) and Vietnam’s reputation for safety are critical pillars for its success.
While golf is the primary driver, Phase 2 will introduce several "firsts" for Vietnam to broaden its appeal to non-golfers and families:
As Vietnam continues to be named "Asia’s Best Golf Destination," Hoiana's billion-dollar bet suggests that the future of the country’s luxury tourism lies in the perfect blend of high-end sports, retail, and coastal hospitality.
