A joint venture between Kinetic Green of India and Italy’s Tonino Lamborghini is set to enter the world’s largest market for golf carts, with exports to the United States beginning in January or February.
The premium, co-branded golf carts, manufactured in India, will soon be seen on US golf courses, marking a major international expansion for the partnership.
Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Founder and CEO of Kinetic Green, highlighted the strategic advantage India holds in the US market. “We are excited about the US market because India has a tariff advantage over China,” she stated. This advantage is driven by the 200% anti-dumping duties currently levied by the US on Chinese-made golf carts.
"Despite a current 50% US tariff on Indian carts, this is still an advantage for us, and we are hopeful for a government-to-government solution on the tariff in the near future," Motwani added.
Kinetic Green and Tonino Lamborghini signed their joint venture agreement in 2018 to design and manufacture the range of golf carts, with production commencing about a month ago. The company has already completed small-scale exports to markets including the Maldives, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia, but the US will represent the first large-quantity export market.
The export push is central to Kinetic Green’s ambitious financial targets. Motwani shared the company's vision to grow from its current ₹500 crore valuation to a $1 billion dollar company within the next five to six years.
“Around 25% of that future revenue will be generated from golf carts,” she noted.
Motwani projects an aggressive growth rate of 50-60% for the company, driven by the inflection point in electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India. The nation is targeting 30% EV penetration from the current 5% by the end of the decade.
To support this growth, the company recently secured $25 million from UK-based private equity fund Greater Pacific Capital and plans to raise an additional $30–50 million in the next financial year.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the launch of the company’s new electric two-wheeler, the E-Luna Prime, in Chennai. Motwani highlighted the affordability and sustainability of the E-Luna Prime, which is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to conventional 100cc and 110cc petrol motorcycles.
