The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America) has established a partnership with JG Golf Vietnam, the official distributor of PGA products in Vietnam. This agreement, announced in Hanoi on Monday, represents a significant advancement in the development of golf in the Southeast Asian nation.
The collaboration aims to provide high-quality golf products to the Vietnamese market. Sean Thornberry, the global development director at the PGA of America, highlighted that Vietnam is emerging as a leading golf destination globally, with growth of golf in Vietnam gaining international attention over the past few years.
Noteworthy achievements by Vietnamese golfers include Le Khanh Hung's gold medal at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in May 2023, as well as the team's historic win at the 30th Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship, known as the Nomura Cup 2024, held in Hai Phong City in October of the previous year.
Thornberry noted that there are opportunities for Vietnamese golfers to participate in international tournaments and potentially compete in prestigious events like the PGA Tour. While the PGA primarily operates in the United States, this program is accessible to golfers worldwide. Thornberry emphasized that although Vietnamese golfers have the potential to succeed, challenges such as skill development and language proficiency must be addressed. This partnership serves as a foundation to help overcome these obstacles.
Through its collaboration with JG Golf Vietnam, the PGA of America aims to bring premium golf products closer to both golfers and fans in Vietnam. Looking ahead, Vietnam's primary goal in golf is to achieve success at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Thailand in December 2025.
Founded in 1916, the PGA of America is one of the largest and most influential sports organizations globally, serving over 30,000 professional golfers across the United States and committed to promoting the sport of golf on a global scale.
