A night dedicated to celebrating the best of Australian and international golf saw a key figure in Asian golf management, Ian Roberts, receive a top honour. Roberts, the General Manager of the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC), was named the 2025 International PGA Professional of the Year at the annual PGA Awards, held to formally kick off the BMW Australian PGA Championship week.
Declan McCollam - General Manager of Prestige Golfshire Club (India), was the 2024 recipient
The award acknowledges PGA Professionals working outside of Australia who have made significant contributions to the game, and Roberts was recognised specifically for his work leading the SICC, one of Southeast Asia's most distinguished golf institutions.
Roberts’s recognition highlights the increasingly global reach and influence of golf professionals in executive management roles. As General Manager, he oversees the operations and strategic direction of the Singapore Island Country Club, which features multiple championship courses and is a crucial hub for golf development in the region.
PGA of Australia CEO, Gavin Kirkman, commended the diverse contributions of all winners, noting the vital role of professionals like Roberts.
“The strength of golf in Australia is built upon the contributions made by our PGA Professionals, with their influence spanning every level of the game,” said Kirkman. “Whether guiding major champions, finding fun ways to bring juniors into our sport, managing facilities, or providing wonderful experiences plus service to golf club members across Australia, PGA Professionals are the custodians driving our sport forward."
Roberts was celebrated alongside Carbrook Golf Club’s Scott Wagstaff, who took out the PGA National Management Professional of the Year award, underscoring the importance of excellence in golf management.
The night's highest player honour, the Greg Norman Medal, was awarded to Minjee Lee for a record fourth time, recognizing a stellar season highlighted by her victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, her third major title.
Her win capped a historic year for Australian women’s golf, which saw two individual major winners for the first time since 2006, as fellow Aussie Grace Kim also claimed her first major at the Amundi Evian Championship.
