Vietnam Golf Coast Invests in Next-Gen Course Enhancements to Elevate Regional Appeal

23 July, 2025

DANANG, VIETNAM — The Vietnam Golf Coast—a collective of premier golf clubs along Central Vietnam’s coastline, is doubling down on course enhancements as part of an ambitious strategy to maintain its status as one of Asia’s most compelling golf destinations. With significant upgrades underway at Laguna Golf Lang Co and Ba Na Hills Golf Club, the destination continues to prioritize sustainability, agronomic excellence, and premium guest experiences.

Already renowned for their strategic designs and natural beauty, both clubs are introducing targeted improvements across turf conditioning, native landscaping, and visual aesthetics—aimed at ensuring consistent playability and long-term environmental stewardship.

At Laguna Golf Lang Co, the Sir Nick Faldo-designed championship course is undergoing a suite of sustainability-led upgrades. A second shelter is being constructed for the club’s much-loved herd of water buffalo, which serve as living “bio-mowers” by naturally tending to the rice paddies that are seamlessly integrated into the course layout. The move underscores Laguna’s deep commitment to agronomic innovation and cultural authenticity.

“We’re focused on long-term performance and resilience, particularly through Vietnam’s variable climate,” said Jason Blacka, newly appointed Chief Superintendent at Laguna Golf Lang Co. “That includes expanding our turf nursery and transitioning back to Zoysia matrella for better drought tolerance, while also reinforcing agronomic training for our greens staff.”

Additional efforts include the re-establishment of putting surfaces and the reimagining of native landscape zones to expose sand and encourage native plant species—enhancing both play strategy and ecological integrity.

Meanwhile, at Ba Na Hills Golf Club, located in the forested highlands above Da Nang, the team is aligning physical upgrades with a refreshed brand philosophy: "Crafted by Nature, Perfected by Passion." The new brand direction captures a dual commitment to precision turf management and natural elegance.

“This ethos goes beyond marketing—it drives how we approach every element of course presentation and player experience,” said Simon Mees, General Manager at Ba Na Hills Golf Club. “We’re investing in more rigorous maintenance, modern operational tools, and aesthetic improvements without losing the sense of calm and purity that defines us.”

Recent initiatives at Ba Na Hills include:

  • Raising water levels between holes 9 and 18 to enhance course visuals
  • Lowering fairway height on hole 11 to reveal scenic water views and improve drainage
  • Ongoing annual renovations to greens, tees, and fairways to promote deep rooting and long-term turf health

Both clubs are also leveraging technology to streamline operations and data collection, while ensuring that the core focus remains on delivering an authentic, high-quality golf experience.

“The Vietnam Golf Coast has always set a high bar for design and service,” added Mees. “But what sets us apart now is the mindset: continuous improvement and an unwavering respect for the landscape.”

With these forward-thinking enhancements, the Vietnam Golf Coast reinforces its reputation as not just a destination of natural beauty, but a benchmark for innovation and excellence in Asian golf tourism.
