Kuala Lumpur Golf & CC Welcomes Sir Nick Faldo as golf course design consultant

26 March, 2025

Sime Darby Property Bhd's Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) has welcomed golf legend and six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo as its new golf course design consultant.

This marks the start of a project to enhance the club's east course, KLGCC said today.

The signing between Faldo's firm Faldo Design Inc and Jordan Ng, director of KLGCC Bhd recently was witnessed by KLGCC club president Tun Musa Hitam, club captain Datuk Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, general manager Adam Calver, as well as representatives from Faldo Design and members of the diplomatic community.

Expressing enthusiasm about his first project in Malaysia, Faldo highlighted his vision to elevate KLGCC's east course.

Leveraging the existing natural landscape, including its lush trees, water features, and appealing terrain, Faldo and his design team aim to transform it into a golf course of exceptional quality, aligning with KLGCC's standards.

Through the partnership, KLGCC will host two prestigious Faldo Series tournaments—the Faldo Junior Tour and the Faldo Futures Malaysia Qualifying Event.

Open to Malaysian golfers aged 7-21, these tournaments provide a competitive platform and a pathway to gain international exposure, following in the footsteps of renowned Faldo Series alumni such as Rory McIlroy, Yani Tseng and Malaysia's own Kelly Tan.

Additionally, Faldo is introducing the Faldo Futures for younger players aged 7 to 12, offering them an early and enjoyable introduction to golf competitions before progressing to the Junior Tour, which features 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) events.

This initiative provides aspiring golfers with a structured pathway to compete at the highest levels, culminating in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.

Established in 1991, KLGCC is renowned for its world-class facilities and lush greenery, located just 8km from Kuala Lumpur's city centre.

Its championship courses have hosted major tournaments, including the PGA TOUR, European Tour, and Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) events, all within a single year for three consecutive years.

The West Course at KLGCC is currently the host venue for the LPGA's highest prize purse in Asia - the Maybank Championship.
