England Edge Team World in Dramatic Finale at Reignwood Icons of Football

17 February, 2026

Team England has successfully retained the Icons Series Trophy, securing a narrow 20–19 victory over Team World in a high-stakes showdown at Robinswood Golf Club in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two-day event, held within the expansive Reignwood Park development, came down to the final green of the final match. Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe delivered the heroics, holing the decisive putt to defeat Andriy Shevchenko and seal the win by a single point.

“This was probably the best moment of my life,” Sharpe said, reflecting on the pressure-packed finish.

A Clash of Legends

The competition featured a roster of footballing royalty transitioning from the pitch to the fairways. Captained by 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett, Team England held a slim one-point lead after the opening day.

Despite a fierce comeback from the Thomas Björn-led Team World—which featured stars like Gabriel Batistuta, Ruud Gullit, and Gianfranco Zola—England managed to hold their nerve.

One of the week's defining moments occurred in the anchor match between Jimmy Bullard and Gareth Bale. After falling four holes behind, Bale staged a remarkable comeback to earn a half-point, highlighting the tournament's competitive spirit.

“We’ve all finished the competitiveness of professional football, fighting for trophies and places in the team, so to have a big event delivered so well gives us the chance to compete again,” said Bale. “It’s nice to have those feelings again.”

Robinswood Shines on Global Stage

Beyond the scoreboard, the event served as a massive showcase for Robinswood Golf Club and the 2,000-rai Reignwood Park development. The tournament broadcast reached a global audience, spotlighting the 18-hole championship course and the Claude Harmon III Performance Golf Academy.

Seehachet Saifon, General Manager of Robinswood Golf Club, noted that the event solidified the venue's reputation as a premier destination in Asia.

“Hosting the Reignwood Icons of Football allowed us to demonstrate not only the quality of our championship course, but also our ability to deliver a global broadcast event of this scale,” Saifon said.

The Icons also took time to engage with the local community, visiting the KIS International School located within the park to meet with students.
