Boongullaya Returns to Blue Canyon Country Club as General Manager

29 June, 2026

PHUKET, Thailand - Industry veteran Daniel Boongullaya has been appointed as the new General Manager of the prestigious Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket. This high-profile appointment marks an emotional and strategic homecoming for Daniel, who previously served as the club's Golf Operations Manager between 2020 and 2022.

Stepping into the top leadership role, Boongullaya brings exactly twenty years of international experience, an impressive track record across Thailand's ultra-competitive golfing landscape, and a deep familiarity with Blue Canyon’s dual championship layouts—the Canyon Course and the Lakes Course.

A Strategic Homecoming to an Asian Icon

Daniel’s return to the northern shores of Phuket comes at a pivotal moment for Blue Canyon Country Club. Globally celebrated for hosting legendary events like the Johnnie Walker Classic—where Tiger Woods secured a historic victory in 1998—the resort remains a bucket-list destination for international golf travelers.

Having managed the club's daily golf operations during the challenging pandemic years, Daniel's promotion to General Manager ensures a seamless transition. He will oversee comprehensive operations management, hospitality services, and guest experience across the entire resort property.

"Returning to Blue Canyon Country Club is a profoundly meaningful milestone in my career," Daniel said regarding his appointment. "Having deeply understood its operational DNA a few years ago, I am incredibly thrilled to lead this iconic property into its next era of excellence. Our focus will remain on elevating our world-class hospitality, preserving our legendary championship courses, and delivering an unforgettable experience to every member and guest."

Cultivating a Premier Leadership Track Record in Thailand

Daniel’s appointment follows a highly successful tenure as General Manager at Flora Ville Golf & Country Club in Bangkok, a position he held from September 2024 until April 2026. At Flora Ville, he spearheaded a major operational shift focused heavily on customer service excellence and advanced golf course management, solidifying the venue's reputation as one of the capital's premier modern golfing escapes.

Prior to his time at Flora Ville, Daniel built a formidable administrative profile through several of Thailand's most exclusive golf establishments:

  • The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC): Served as Director of Golf from September 2022 to September 2024, managing high-tier operations, talent recruitment, and member relations at one of the country's oldest and most prestigious private institutions.
  • Black Mountain Golf Club: Held the role of Director of Golf in Hua Hin during mid-2022, overseeing operations at the multi-award-winning resort layout.
  • Amata Spring Country Club: Spent two years from 2018 to 2020 as a resident Golf Professional, building vital foundational networks within the elite tier of Thai professional golf.

Daniel's diverse management background also includes unique stints outside of pure golf operations, including a two-year tenure as Operations Manager for Yukanna Japanese Restaurant in Bangkok, and over two years as a Physical Education Instructor at the Regent's International School Bangkok. This multi-sector experience has given him a distinct perspective on regional hospitality, community service standards, and corporate governance.

From the Gold Coast to the Seniority of Asian Golf Management

Daniel’s journey to the top tier of international golf club management began two decades ago on the sun-drenched fairways of Australia's Gold Coast. Between 2006 and 2007, he took his first job in the industry working part-time as a Driving Range Attendant at the Robina Woods and The Colonial Golf Courses.

During this foundational period, he completed his Diploma of Sports Development in Golf at the specialized Australasian Golf Academy. Armed with a blend of formal athletic education and practical, boots-on-the-ground experience, Daniel moved to Thailand, where he initially broke into the local scene as a Management Trainee at Chon Buri’s Burapha Golf Club in 2010.

Now returning to Phuket to lead a property that has hosted global golfing royalty, Daniel’s career has truly come full circle. His comprehensive understanding of everything from grassroots driving range operations to high-end resort hospitality places Blue Canyon Country Club in incredibly capable hands moving forward.
