TOKYO, Japan - The Japan Golf Association (JGA) has officially announced the appointment of Kazuhiro Tsuga as its new Chairman. The decision was formalized during an Extraordinary Board of Directors Meeting, which followed the 1st Ordinary Board of Councillors Meeting for Fiscal Year 2026.
Tsuga, the prominent business executive and former Chief Executive Officer of Panasonic, succeeds outgoing Chairman Masanari Iketani.
In his inaugural address, Tsuga acknowledged the economic hurdles facing the sport but emphasized golf's evolving global appeal. He committed to advancing the JGA’s foundational initiatives while outlining a roadmap for long-term development.
“I am deeply honoured to assume the role of Chairman," Tsuga said. "Golf brings immense benefits, including extending healthy life expectancy and expanding social connections – gaining global attention since the pandemic.
“The JGA will continue to promote the handicap system, golf rules, and etiquette so that all golfers can enjoy the sport with mutual respect.”
While the JGA will continue executing its current five-year mid-term business plan established in 2022, Tsuga revealed that the association will begin formulating its next five-year strategic plan in 2027 to ensure sustainable growth. Under his leadership, the governing body aims to actively share information to popularize golf and foster sound development across all sectors of the community.
The appointment drew praise from regional leadership, highlighting the JGA's historic role as a foundational member of the international golf community.
Philip Hassall, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC)—the region’s ruling body on amateur golf—welcomed the appointment:
“Congratulations to Kazuhiro-san on his appointment. The JGA was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the APGC in 1963 and has remained a prominent member. Under Kazuhiro-san’s leadership, the APGC looks forward to further strengthening the relationship between the two organisations.”
Established in 1924, the JGA serves as the governing body for golf in Japan. Operating as a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, the JGA is dedicated to the promotion, regulation, and development of the sport. The organization is responsible for organizing national championships and fostering the next generation of golfers in alignment with international standards.
