JAKARTA - Following a whirlwind first 100 days in office, newly appointed General Manager Nick Shan delivered a comprehensive briefing mapping out the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation’s (APGC) aggressive tournament schedule and its strategic vision heading into the second half of 2026.
Reflecting on a fast-paced introductory period, Shan opened his presentation by expressing deep gratitude to APGC Chairman Mr. Philip Hassel and the governing board. He praised their patience and foundational support as the new leadership team adjusted to the demands of managing the region's premier amateur golfing body.
The initial three months under Shan’s oversight proved to be an intense operational trial, with the APGC successfully executing five major regional tournaments. According to Shan, the period required massive coordination, ranging from complex staff management to direct logistics liaison with national golf associations, commercial supporters, and future host venues.
Shan took the opportunity to formally recognize the member nations that stepped up to anchor the confederation’s heavy spring and summer slate:
"Understanding how to create tangible value for our membership is the absolute key to our strategy." — Nick Shan
The sheer scale of regional participation was spotlighted by the Ciputra Golf Premier Junior World Championship, which drew an impressive field of 140 competitive players representing 29 different countries.
This high turnout has triggered a strategic shift in how the APGC plans to select future sites. Shan revealed that several prominent venues featuring integrated on-site accommodation components have already volunteered to host upcoming tournaments. Securing these self-contained "linked accommodation" setups represents the ideal operational model the APGC is actively pursuing to streamline logistics and reduce travel friction for international athletes.
Closing out the briefing, Shan painted an optimistic picture of the confederation's financial and commercial landscape. Following a wave of supportive emails, high-level meetings, and formal expressions of interest, he noted that numerous corporate partners are waiting in the wings to back the APGC once further operational momentum is solidified.
Moving forward, Shan plans to present this market feedback directly to the APGC board. He emphasized that finding new ways to generate value for member associations will serve as the North Star for the leadership team as they draft a conceptual roadmap for an ambitious and exciting second half of 2026.
