NEW DELHI - In a major boost for the Indian golf industry, The R&A, in partnership with the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute (NZSTI), has announced the renewal of its prestigious Intermediate Certificate in Greenkeeping programme in India this October.
The initiative aims to address the growing demand for world-class turf management by offering experienced Indian greenkeepers a structured pathway to elevate both their technical expertise and leadership capabilities.
The comprehensive 12-month programme bridges the gap between traditional upkeep and modern agronomy. Rather than pulling turf professionals away from their daily responsibilities, the course uses a hybrid model that blends face-to-face instruction, distance learning, and hands-on workplace mentoring.
Participants will dive into five core pillars of modern golf course maintenance:
The programme officially tees off with an intensive five-day Introduction Course from October 12–16, 2026, at a premier Indian golf venue to be announced soon.
Following the introductory week, the bulk of the education shifts back to the participants' home courses. The curriculum requires 60 to 90 learning hours per module over the year, allowing greenkeepers to implement their new knowledge directly onto their home fairways and greens. Local workplace mentors will guide the students through practical applications and ongoing assessments.
The rigorous programme culminates in a final round of written and practical examinations. Graduates will be awarded The R&A Intermediate Certificate in Greenkeeping—a highly respected, internationally recognized qualification that promises to significantly raise the standard of golf course presentation and sustainability across India.
