Philippines Positions Itself as a Contender in Golf Tourism Hub in Asia

6 May, 2026

The Philippines is steadily building its profile as an emerging premium golf tourism destination in Asia. The country combines high-quality championship courses, diverse tropical landscapes, and well-integrated leisure offerings, positioning it to capture a larger share of the growing global golf tourism market.

According to the Golf Tourism Market Forecast and Outlook 2026–2036, the sector is projected to expand from USD 24.8 billion in 2026 to USD 39.2 billion by 2036, reflecting a CAGR of 4.7%. While traditional leaders in the United States and Europe maintain strong positions, Asia-Pacific destinations are investing heavily in infrastructure and product development to attract international play.

Strategic Accessibility for Key Source Markets

The Philippines offers convenient access for Northeast Asian golfers, with direct flights of approximately three to five hours to major gateways including Manila, Cebu, and Clark. English-speaking hospitality staff, straightforward visa policies for many nationalities, and improving air connectivity enhance the overall travel experience. This makes the destination suitable for both short-stay golf trips and longer multi-destination leisure itineraries.

Diverse Golf Product Across Regions

Rather than relying on a single flagship resort, the Philippines delivers a multi-destination golf offering that allows groups and individuals to experience varied playing conditions and environments within one trip.

  • Luzon: Options range from the historic Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila to elevated layouts in Batangas and Tagaytay, including Mount Malarayat, Summit Point, and Splendido Taal. Clark has emerged as a modern hub with Mimosa Plus and Pradera Verde, supported by nearby Subic International. Baguio’s John Hay Golf Club provides a distinctive highland, pine-lined alternative with cooler temperatures.
  • Visayas: Cebu features strong resort-style and elevated courses such as Liloan Golf & Leisure Estate, Club Filipino de Cebu, and Alta Vista. Boracay’s Fairways and Bluewater Golf & Country Club integrates golf with a premier beach destination. Iloilo Golf & Country Club (est. 1907), the oldest course in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, adds historical depth alongside Bacolod options.
  • Mindanao: The southern region offers a more relaxed pace with venues including Apo Golf & Country Club, Rancho Palos Verdes, and South Pacific in Davao. Additional variety is found at Pueblo de Oro (Cagayan de Oro), Del Monte Golf Course (Bukidnon), and the coastal Dakak Golf and Beach Resort in Dapitan.

This geographic spread enables operators to create compelling multi-course itineraries with relatively short transfers, increasing length of stay and spend per visitor.

Expanding International Visitor Base

The Philippines continues to broaden its source markets beyond traditional Asian neighbors. Key inbound nationalities now include Australia, Papua New Guinea, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, the UAE, India, and several Southeast Asian countries. A notable development in early 2026 was the arrival of the first fully French golf group—entirely first-time visitors—facilitated by improved air connectivity. This indicates growing potential in the European long-haul segment.

The Philippine golf product is maturing from a price-competitive alternative into a differentiated, high-satisfaction destination that blends quality golf with authentic tropical lifestyle elements.
