Icheon City Secures Approval for 22.5 Billion Won Park Golf Course Project

22 October, 2026

Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province will invest 22.5 billion won to construct a 54-hole park golf course in Moga-myeon. The project gained momentum after successfully passing Gyeonggi Province's local government fiscal investment review.

Provincial Review and Approval

On October 19, Icheon City announced that the Moga-myeon Public Sports Facilities Development Project passed the provincial fiscal investment review. The approval followed three prior rounds of reconsideration by the review panel, which had cited concerns regarding the overall scale of the project and the necessity of securing sufficient demand.

To address these concerns, Icheon City detailed plans to differentiate the facility from existing regional park golf courses and highlighted its potential to host provincial-level athletic competitions.

Project Specifications and Goals

Located around San 120-1, Jingari, Moga-myeon, the project encompasses an area of approximately 105,000 square meters.

The facility will feature:

  • 36 standard holes designed for general use.
  • 18 accessible holes designed for both the general public and people with disabilities.

The city intends for the facility to serve as a community sports hub for middle-aged residents, older adults, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the development aims to expand athletic infrastructure across southern Icheon and reduce regional disparities in facility access.

Next Steps and Expected Opening

With fiscal clearance secured, Icheon City plans to execute administrative steps, including updating the urban management plan, completing detailed engineering designs, and securing necessary municipal permits. The target opening date is scheduled for the first half of 2029.

Mayor Seong Suseok emphasized the significance of the approval:

"Passing the investment review completes an important step toward moving the project forward. We will carry out the related administrative procedures without delay, create a community sports facility that residents can use conveniently, and work to reduce disparities in sports facilities between different areas."

As local municipalities expand recreational offerings, public expenditure on regional sports developments remains a topic of community discussion.
