SINGAPORE - Syngenta has appointed Dr. Shoumo Mitra as Head of Marketing, Turf & Landscape for its AMEA (Africa, Middle East, Asia) and JANZ (Japan, Australia, New Zealand) regions, effective September 1, 2026.
Based in Singapore, Dr. Mitra will oversee the strategy and management of Syngenta’s Turf & Landscape business across both territories. In his new capacity, he will focus on supporting industry professionals, addressing evolving customer needs, and driving sustainable management practices for high-quality turf and landscapes through targeted innovation.
Dr. Mitra brings over two decades of experience in turf science, research and development, and commercial marketing to the position. He initially joined Syngenta in 2008 as Global Technical Manager for Turf in Basel, Switzerland, following a career in academia as a professor at California State University, Pomona.
In 2010, he relocated to Singapore to serve as Head of Technical Services for Lawn & Garden, later transitioning in 2013 to Head of Ornamentals, Turf & Landscape for APAC. He subsequently served as ASEAN Head of R&D before taking on senior leadership roles outside the company, including APAC Head of Regulatory and Development at ADAMA. Most recently, Dr. Mitra spent six years at Corteva, serving as APAC Senior Director of Crop Health R&D and APAC Regional Marketing Director across seeds and crop protection until July 2026.
Holding an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Dr. Mitra has been an active figure in the global turf community. His contributions include serving on the Board of Directors for the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) from 2012 to 2017. Over the course of his career, he has received several prestigious accolades, including the American Chemical Society’s 'Outstanding Young Scientist' award (Agrochemicals Division), the Gamma Sigma Delta Excellence in Research Award, and the European Society of Agricultural Engineers' 'Industry Innovation' award.
In his return to Syngenta, Dr. Mitra aims to strengthen regional partnerships with golf course superintendents, landscape managers, distributors, and key industry stakeholders.
